The Tigers didn’t make it easy on themselves against Campbells Creek last Saturday, squandering a 19-point quarter-time lead to trail by eight heading into the second half.

Led by several strong intercept marks from Jaykeb Lench in defence and key goals from Jaxon Thomas, Brandon Green and Thomas McGregor, the Tigers built a third-quarter buffer they didn’t relinquish, holding on by 13 points.

After pushing Harcourt to the limit at home in round three, Lexton will attempt to go one better against another finals challenger in Talbot, who’s had their premiership dreams slightly shaken by two convincing defeats to fellow contenders early in the home and away season.

There’s no denying Talbot hosts a wealth of game-changing talent, exemplified when they kicked seven first-quarter goals in their highly-touted round three clash against the Redbacks.

However, in their early samples against the league’s elite, the Hawks have been unable to conjure a winning formula with that talent, particularly on defence.

Despite scoring 86 points, the highest points tally a team has kicked against the Redbacks in their last 25 matches, Talbot were defeated by over 10 goals after allowing a staggering 147 points on their home ground.

With a round four bye allowing everyone to evaluate and regroup, the Hawks will be keen to send a statement at the Tigers’ expense this weekend.
