While it’s an unfamiliar feeling for the Magpies faithful, it’s a feeling they would love to get accustomed to after snapping their 55-game losing streak in a compelling six-point victory over Avoca.

Despite an emboldened Bulldogs shrinking their 23-point three-quarter time lead to six points early in the final term with three unanswered goals, Campbells Creek showed incredible resolve to clog the closing stages with repeat stoppages and hold onto a remarkable win.

It’s an unforgettable moment that was authored by some excellent performances from Isaac Fletcher, Judd Stevens, James Martinovic and Jake Leslie.

With the losing burden now off their shoulders, the Magpies are thirsty for another taste of the winners’ cup as they look to take themselves off the bottom of the MCDFNL ladder by season’s end.

Meanwhile, the Grasshoppers enter their lengthy away trip hoping to rebound from a bitter 33-point defeat to the undefeated Harcourt Lions.

Navarre found themselves entangled in an arm wrestle with one of the competition’s perennial contenders, trailing by nine points at three-quarter time, before a dominant fourth quarter by Harcourt put the game to bed.

While round five was a vital litmus test for a team hoping to cement itself in the league’s upper echelon, the Grasshoppers will feel they let a statement victory slip away last weekend and will be keen for a return to winning ways.
