A 29-year-old Carisbrook man was arrested last week alleged to have stolen a large amount of farming equipment across multiple shires.

Central Goldfields Crime Investigation Unit detectives executed a search warrant in Carisbrook on September 4 as part of an ongoing investigation into thefts at rural properties.

Two burglaries at the same Archdale Junction property less than a week apart in early August saw a large amount of property stolen including farm materials, a motorbike, and power tools.

Investigations revealed a dark coloured Toyota Hilux with a trailer were utilised to carry out the thefts.

Further thefts were reported on August 8 where the same vehicle was observed at a rural property in Bowenvale and Avoca.

Local police said search warrant executions recovered a large amount of property including a dingo digger and trailer, a “quite expensive” Jeep, farm materials, power tools, pumps, and farm equipment.

Senior Constable Emma Williams said local police have started contacting owners but some items are still missing.

“There are various power tools still missing, farm gates, things like that,” she said.

She reminds the community that thefts do occur and that the community should remain vigilant.

“Particularly in those rural areas have [CCTV] cameras and have them up in high, hard to reach places,” she said.

If community members notice anything suspicious she urges them to contact Crime Stoppers rather than posting on Facebook

“That way the information feeds back to us and we’re able to collate it in a way that makes sense and find links between the offences,” she said.

“We just want people to remain diligent.”

The accused, a 29-year-old man, was arrested and charged with theft, handle stolen goods, theft of motor vehicle, committing an indictable offence whilst on bail and offences of dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police.

He was remanded into custody to appear at the Maryborough Magistrates’ Court on September 29.
