Community members are encouraged to come together, show support and take a positive step towards ending gender-based violence by joining a community walk on Wednesday, December 10.

The walk welcomes people of all ages and abilities to come together for respect and equality as part of the local 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. No RSVPs are required — residents are encouraged to turn up on the day, wear orange, and walk in solidarity.

“The walk is an easy yet meaningful way for locals to get involved. Everyone is welcome, and every step counts,” Maryborough District Health Service acting CEO Debbie Rogers said.

“By walking together, we send a clear message that our community values safety, respect and inclusion. One small action can help spark broader change.

“Joining the walk shows support not just for the campaign, but for everyone in our community affected by gender-based violence.”

The walk will take place on December 10 at 9.45 for a 10 am start at the Zonta flower bed in Phillips Gardens.

The walk will take around 20 minutes before concluding at the Maryborough District Health Service in Clarendon Street.

Participants are invited to bring a sign or message of support and wear orange.

“Everyone in the community has the ability to contribute. Taking even one positive action supports efforts to prevent gender-based violence, and community participation sends a strong message of support and helps build momentum for change,” Ms Rogers said.

“Join the walk, take part in 16 Days activities, and help build a safer, more respectful community for everyone.”

The local campaign is organised by Maryborough District Health Service, Central Goldfields Shire Council, The Orange Door, Zonta, Centre for Non-Violence, Anglicare Victoria, Bendigo & District Aboriginal Co-operative, Victoria Police, CFA, SES and other community partners.
