Edlyn Foods looks to double local output
Member for Ripon Martha Haylett has thrown her support behind Maryborough’s manufacturing sector, recently overseeing Edlyn Foods as the site plans to increase operations and employment.
Maryborough’s Edlyn Foods site is one of five across Australia producing and distributing a diverse range of food products to customers nationwide and abroad.
Production manager Frank Gavriliadis said the distributor is expecting to double production within the next two years.
“Edlyn Foods Maryborough is preparing to double their output over the next 12 to 18 months, which will result in increased employment opportunities in the region,” he said.
Ms Haylett visited Edlyn recently as part of her ongoing commitment to connect with local businesses across the Ripon electorate, determined to meet as many business owners as possible, listening to their concerns and learning first hand how she can support growth and opportunity in the region.
“When we back local businesses like Edlyn, we’re backing Maryborough’s future,” she said.
“These are the kinds of secure jobs that will keep families here for generations to come.”
The Maryborough site plays a vital role in Edlyn’s manufacturing network.
Specialising in bakery and dessert products, the facility produces a wide range of goods tailored to the food service industry.
These include cake, muffin and pancake mixes, gravies, salts, self saucing puddings, mousse, drinking chocolate and jelly. Each product is crafted to deliver consistency, flavour, and convenience to chefs and hospitality professionals across Australia.
“Currently, our Maryborough facility ships approximately 5200 tonnes of product annually. With the introduction of innovative new products and the acquisition of contracts from various commercial clients, we’re targeting an increase to over 10,000 tonnes within the same timeframe,” Mr Gavriliadis said.
To support this growth, he said the business has recently invested $500,000 in new machinery, including upgrades to some of their operations.
“This investment has delivered a 38 percent improvement in efficiency and reduced manual handling on that line by up to 80 percent,” Mr Gavriliadis said.
Since opening the site ten years ago with as many employees on day shift, Edlyn has grown to a team of 30 across both day and afternoon shifts.
“These enhancements have not only saved time and money but also significantly improved employee safety throughout the supply chain. As the business continues to grow, more investment in upgrading machinery will follow with additional up skilled training for employees,” Mr Gavriliadis said.
At a time of the site’s expansion, he said Edlyn Foods is seeking to increase its number of employees.
“We are always keen to hear from locals and those in nearby towns who may be interested in joining their team. We see this as a great opportunity for people in the Maryborough region to build a career while staying connected to their community,” Mr Gavriliadis said.
