A partnership between Mary-borough District Health Service (MDHS) and Central Goldfields Shire libraries will mean local women, girls, and gender-diverse people can learn more about local health options available to them next week.

The women’s health drop-in sessions at Maryborough and Dunolly libraries will aim to provide a welcoming space for connection, education, and support.

The sessions are a part of Women’s Health Week, running from September 1 to 5, nationally led by women’s health not-for-profit Jean Hailes.

MDHS’ well women’s clinic nurse Nicole Powers said the national theme, ‘say yes to you’, is an opportunity to put their health and wellbeing first.

“Women often juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, which can mean their health takes a back seat,” she said.

“Women’s Health Week is a great time to pause, check in with yourself and connect with local services that can support you.”

The sessions will provide practical information on topics such as women’s health checks, cervical screening, contraception and pregnancy options, breastfeeding support and sexual health services.

Locals will also be able to learn about local health services that support women taking charge of their wellbeing including the Well Women’s Clinic, Maryborough BreastScreen, and Sexual and Reproductive Health Advice Clinic.

Sessions will also have healthcare professionals available including community health nurses and an endorsed midwife.

Central Goldfields Shire mayor Grace La Vella said council was proud to support MDHS in encouraging women to take charge of their health.

“These sessions at both Maryborough and Dunolly libraries are a great opportunity to learn which health checks are due, get more out of your healthcare appointments, and connect with local services,” she said.

The community is invited to come along, either alone or with a friend, for an informal health chat, no RSVP’s required:

• Maryborough Library, Monday September 1, 2 to 4 pm

• Dunolly Library, Thursday September 4, 2 to 4 pm
