Local families are encouraged to attend upcoming kindergarten open days ahead of registrations opening next month.

Families can use one registration form to apply for any of the seven kindergartens across the Central Goldfields Shire.

From 2027, as part of Victorian Government changes, families will have access to:

• 16–20 hours of funded four‑year‑old kindergarten.

• 15 hours of funded three‑year‑old kindergarten.

• 16-25 hours of funded Pre Prep Kindergarten for eligible children.

To find out which kindergarten is the best fit for your child, council is encouraging families to attend the upcoming kindergarten open days:

• Dunolly Kindergarten — Tuesday, May 19: 2.30 to 4.30 pm

• A.G. Leech Kindergarten — Friday, May 22: 2.30 to 4.30 pm

• Goldfields Children’s Centre — Saturday, May 23: 10 am to 12 noon

• Talbot Kindergarten — Wednesday, May 27: 3 to 4.30 pm

• Californian Gully Kindergarten — Thursday, May 28: 2.30 to 4.30 pm

• Roseberry House Early Learning Centre — Saturday, May 30: 10 am to 12 noon

The open days are an opportunity for families to visit each kindergarten, speak with educators about their programs and session times, explore the indoor and outdoor learning spaces, and ask any questions they may have.

Central Goldfields Shire manager children and families, Carolyn Bartholomeusz, said the shire was fortunate to have seven high‑quality kindergartens for local families.

“Kindergarten provides enormous benefits for children’s health, well-being, social skills and confidence, giving them a strong foundation for the future,” she said.

“With more funded hours available to families in 2027 and our registration period opening soon, we encourage families to learn about the additional hours available before submitting their registration.

“Families are also reminded that the registration process is not first‑in, best‑dressed. There is no advantage to registering early in June or late in June — all applications are processed according to the Victorian Government’s priority of access guidelines.”
