Lexton remains perfect in 2026 with 34-goal win
Lexton has maintained its perfect start to 2026, overpowering Campbells Creek with a commanding first-half performance on its way to a 34-goal victory.
With their suffocating defence and ruthless transition, the Tigers sealed their fourth consecutive win by outscoring the Magpies 37-8 in the first and second quarters.
Phoebe Jones, Reagan Fulford and Heni Moeke did lead a Campbells Creek fightback in the second half. However, it didn’t stop Lexton from reaching a 4-0 record ahead of their blockbuster clash with Talbot this weekend.
While Tigers player-coach Cindy Teggerth was the key inclusion for the visitors after not playing the week prior, the Magpies were without McKenna Wynveen, who played well at wing defence the week prior against Dunolly.
From the opening centre pass, Sarah Griffin, Shanae Hepworth and Eliza Bell were like a Lexton wall, guarding any Campbells Creek attack attempting to pass.
The trio’s hounding defence caused constant Magpies turnovers in the first period, providing Tigers shooters Rachel Phelan and Charlize Kennedy an abundance of early shots.
Phelan and Kennedy converted 20 of those attempts, as the Tigers took a convincing 17-goal buffer into quarter time.
Lexton’s scorching start failed to cool into the second quarter, maintaining a torrid pace.
With their defensive excellence creating several fast break chances, Lexton midcourters Caitlin Howell and Darci Berry were carving through the Magpies, providing their shooters with several point-blank opportunities.
By half time, Lexton’s lead had expanded to 29 goals and showed no signs of slowing down.
With the hopes of stemming the tide, the Magpies had a lineup overhaul at the break.
Following a second-quarter trial run, Heni Moeke was shifted into goal attack to play alongside Reagan Fulford in the goal circle.
Claire Jones filled Moeke’s vacated wing attack role, while Taylah Sartori moved to wing defence to give the Campbells Creek defence, now patrolled by Molly Kennedy and Phoebe Jones, some extra protection.
Those drastic changes immediately impacted the third quarter, with the Magpies proving to be more competitive.
Against a rotating Lexton defence, Moeke was the vital link in Campbells Creek’s improved attack, as she and Fulford showed sublime shooting touch.
On the other side of the court, interventions from Phoebe Jones slowed the Tigers’ scoring rate, resulting in the margin staying relatively stable at three-quarter time, with the visitors leading 50-20.
Helping her team score a further 16 goals in a competitive fourth quarter, Lexton young gun Kennedy ended the 66-32 win with 48 goals, matching her A grade game high. Phelan continues to be potent alongside Kennedy in her comeback campaign, converting 18 of her 24 shots.
While Fulford led the Magpies in scoring with 16 makes, Moeke was equally impressive with nine goals and just one missed attempt. Mia Martin and Claire Jones added six and one respectively.
