Held at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club last Saturday night, Bucknall was awarded for another fantastic season for the blue and whites with the top honour.

Bucknall has been the engine in Maryborough’s midfield this season, producing an abundance of creativity and timely tackles while also chipping in with three goals.

Despite the individual achievement, Bucknall was quick to mention the positive growth of the entire club as they strive for a better campaign in 2026.

“I’m privileged and very happy to receive the award, it’s been a good year for us, we have certainly improved and we have pushed some of the top sides,” he said.

“The biggest positive is being able to field a reserves and senior side throughout this season which is a great achievement.

“We have got six junior sides at the moment and the club is really going in the right direction.

“The more juniors we get through, hopefully it flows on to the senior sides because we are a fairly old side at the minute.

“It would be great to see some teenagers hopefully take that next step and excel at the senior level.”

Best and Fairest runner-up Julian Callea was another standout in 2025, winning the club’s Golden Boot with 12 goals from just 14 matches and named the Player’s Player of the Year.

In a remarkable turn of events, the reserves Best and Fairest was a three-way tie, with Andrew Love, Owen Macer and Bayden MacIntyre all sharing the award.

Jonathan Melton won the reserves Golden Boot with five goals for the season, including a hat-trick against the Corangamite Lions back in round five.

Promising young striker Brayden Martin was named Best and Fairest for the under 14’s after booting an astounding 17 goals this season.

He also won the Golden Boot after putting six past Vikings FC Blue and scoring a hat-trick versus Bacchus Marsh Yellow.

Jacob Antolini finished as the under 14’s Best and Fairest runner-up.
