MCDFNL Round 12 Netball Preview Maldon v Campbells Creek
Either Maldon or Campbells Creek will be winless no more after the two teams meet at Bill Woodfull Reserve this weekend.
While it could be argued the Bombers have shown more promise in 2026, especially in close defeats to Lexton, Newstead and Maryborough, the Magpies were certainly closest to procuring a victory when they led the Giants by five goals at quarter time.
Even though Maryborough retook the lead midway through the second term, the defensive efforts of Reagan Fulford and Molly Kennedy, as well as the sharpshooting of Claire Jones and Heni Moeke ensured Campbells Creek were back within two goals at three-quarter time.
The Magpies did have their opportunities to snatch victory at the death, but several untimely turnovers in the fourth quarter proved costly, a valuable learning experience ahead of a contest expected to be evenly matched.
Meanwhile, Maldon found themselves behind the eight ball during the first half of their round 11 meeting against Harcourt, trailing by 18 goals at half time.
Assisted by the efforts of the returning Theresa Buchanan, midcourters Claire Kelly and Charlotte Harrison as well as Claire Hamilton, the Bombers noticeably improved in the second half, showcasing consistency that could give them a decisive edge on Saturday.
Alongside their attacking duties, Kelly, Harrison and emerging midcourter Rory Baker will look to limit the touches of Campbells Creek captain Taylah Sartori, who’s been the key conductor to the Magpies’ offence since shifting to wing attack.
