Following last year’s first ever join with the Avoca Riverside Market, the PHVM will be returning there this weekend.

In it’s ninth year, the club of 250 members is hosting the eighties showcase in one section, and all historic cars throughout the other, before vistors even reach the market.

Pyrenees Historic Vehicle Club (PHVC) member Jenny Mackay said a major event like this is not only huge for the club, but puts Avoca in the spotlight.

“For those who travel the distance, it also highlights the township of Avoca with other activities and everything else that is around,” she said.

“It’s a chance for people to just to have a look around and get a scene of the town.”

While the event is a chance to relive automotive memories from HQs to Ford Muscle cars, PHVC secretary Marg Pilgrim said occasions like these are essential for historic plate holders to get their vehicle back on the road and mingle with a stranger who possibly drove the same one long ago.

“It’s a way of coming together, it’s an outing ... we just want people to come and enjoy, turn up, ask some questions and have a chat. People are always prepared to have a chat about their vehicle,” she said.

“It means those vehicles are not locked away in a shed, under a cover, covered in dust, they’re actually out on the road.”

PHVC president Bruce Mackay agreed, and said everyone has a story behind their much-loved historic car, which they can hopefully share this weekend.

“Every vehicle has a history of some sort, they all have a story, where they come from, how they were acquired, stuff like that,” he said.

With the event and market supporting each other once again, Ms Mackay said there will be something for every member of the family to enjoy.

“It’s perfect for a family of mum, dad and the kids. If mum isn’t interested in the cars, she can look at the market, the kids can get onto the Lions Club train and dad can look at the cars,” she said.

Iconic cars of the eighties, along with a variety of other historic vehicles, will be on display this Sunday, March 22 from 9 am to 1 pm along the river flat on Dundas Road, Avoca. Entry is free.
