Team Lazaros wins 13 medals at BJJ champs
A total of 14 athletes from Maryborough’s Team Lazaros BJJ and Muay Thai competed at the 2025 Will Machado BJJ Championships last Saturday, producing some very successful results.

Held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, the team took home their fair share of medals, winning seven golds and six silvers over the course of the event.
After having the bye in the semi final, Archie Mason had to pull out all the stops in his Boys Gi, White, Pee Wee I final, eventually getting a hard-fought points victory to win gold.
Following a submission victory in her semi final, Ava Miller also won gold in the Girls Gi, White, Pee Wee I event after winning the final by decision.
Joseph Findlow, Whyatt Spink, Mickey Savvidis, Emma Miller and Alayla Savvidis also had a golden time at the event, winning their respective competitions.
Fresh off her two gold medals at the Australian Jiu Jitsu Championships, Bella Savvidis added a silver medal to her collection, advancing to the final of the Girls Gi, Grey Junior III competition with a submission victory in the semi final before losing in a tight final by just two points.
Johnny Mason also had a strong showing in the Boys Gi, White, Mighty Mite II event, with a commanding victory in the semi final sending him to the gold medal match. Unfortunately for Mason, he was denied in the final and forced to settle for a silver.
Frederick Bates, Elizabeth Eastick, Indy Mason and Georgina Bates also grabbed silver medals, while Brayden Condie finished fifth in his Male Gi, White, Adult event.
