Tech workshop in case of emergencies
Residents of the Pyrenees Shire can learn how to keep their irreplaceable photos and important documents safe in case of disasters.

Corangamite and Pyrenees Shire Councils are joining together to present free training for over 50s at Skipton Mechanics Institute Community Hall on Wednesday, March 25 from 10 am to 2 pm.
Pyrenees Shire Council CEO Jim Nolan said recent bushfire events have shown how vital it is to ensure copies of precious memories can be kept safe.
“While working in the Skipton recovery centre after the Streatham-Yalla-Y-Poora fire, our staff identified a need to offer digital literacy workshops, especially to help ensure document safety during an emergency,” he said.
“Pyrenees Shire Council received some funding from Good Things Foundation Australia’s Be Connected grants to run digital skills programs for over 50s in our community.
“We have since held a couple of great workshops for seniors around ways to store records, photos and other important documents, and suggested to Corangamite Shire to offer a similar session in Skipton.”
Corangamite CEO David Rae said now is the best time to save irreplaceable documents and memories, as there is no time during a bushfire emergency.
“We’re no strangers to fires and floods and when things change quickly, or you can’t get home, there might be no time to save important documents,” he said.
“The ‘Scan It. Save It. Safeguard It.’ session will empower participants to turn your photo albums, documents and precious memories into secure digital copies, ready for any emergency.”
Scans can be stored on the cloud so they can be retrieved even if you lose your phone, tablet or computer.
The event is free with lunch provided. To book your place, call Corangamite Shire on 5593 7100 or email servicenav@corangamite. vic.gov.au.
