World Day of Prayer returns
Locals of all christian beliefs are invited to join the nearly century old ecumenical tra-dition, the World Day of Prayer.

This year, the Biblical Society of Australia is partnering with the Bible Society of Nigeria to support poverty in the African nation.
The project supplies relief materials, faith based trauma healing sessions, Bibles and school supplies to impacted communities, aiming to meet basic needs, promote emotional and spiritual healing and offer hope and adversity.
The partnership is also calling on people of faith to pray for the mercy of those impacted by conflict in Nigeria, a country of over 211 million people.
According to World Day of Prayer International, there is a great need in Nigeria among displaced people and those living in slums, compromising the lives of women, men, and children who have endured trauma from communal clashes, living in overcrowded camps and having inadequate access to food, clean water and healthcare.
Avoca Uniting Church’s Jill Hunter said anyone is welcome to engage in prayer for those on the other side of the world who are not as fortunate.
“This year, the Uniting Church is hosting it, and welcoming everyone is number one, we may be small in numbers but we have got to keep going and spread the word,” she said.
“Everybody is welcome, regard-less of faith.”
Avoca’s World Day of Prayer event will be held at Avoca Uniting Church on the corner of Russell and Rutherford streets at 10 am on Friday, March 6.
Maryborough’s service will take place at 10:30 am at Maryborough Church of Christ on the corner of Inkerman and Clarendon streets.
